Groove-heavy folk rock landing somewhere between Bill Withers and The Band is what Edmonton’s Jey Witten is all about. His debut self-titled album featured stripped-down renditions of old soul tunes by a handful of artists including Gil Scott-Heron, Curtis Mayfield and Allen Toussaint. The album received positive reviews in both the Edmonton Journal and the Vancouver Sun, lots of airplay around Alberta and one of the songs landed him a spot as a finalist in the 2013 Calgary Folk Fest songwriting contest.
